De Evenaar is a Centre for Transcultural Psychiatry that provides mental health care in the northern part of the Netherlands to patients from various cultural backgrounds, such as migrant workers, refugees, and asylum seekers. The Centre offers several adult and youth therapy programmes, either inpatient or outpatient care.
Clients can be referred by a general practitioner or a mental health professional. Then a client will receive an invitation to a number of assessments: a psychiatric assessment, questionnaires, and a cultural assessment of the mental health problems. Family members or other confidential persons are welcome at the initial assessment. If it is necessary, an interpreter will be used. After the initial assessment, it will be decided whether and how treatment at De Evenaar is possible.
